Rebuilding the customer journey, from the website to the inbox and beyond

Website · UX · WordPress · Brand · Klaviyo · Email · SMS · Push · Loyalty

The snapshot

Brooklyn Donuts had a lot happening across the business, but the pieces weren’t always working together.

The website was dated and difficult to manage. The CRM was largely campaign-led, while loyalty, app ordering and customer data sat within the Shift8 ecosystem. There was an opportunity to connect the website, loyalty and marketing channels into a more considered customer experience.

The project started with a website rebuild in March 2026. By August, the new site was live and Klaviyo had replaced Mailchimp as the foundation for email, SMS and push. From there, the work has continued across loyalty, lifecycle marketing, brand and packaging.

The starting point

The old Brooklyn Donuts website wasn’t doing the brand any favours.

The design was dated, the UX was lacking and it even had a hamburger menu on desktop. It felt like a mobile design that had simply been stretched onto a larger screen. The client hated it too.

There was also a practical problem. The site wasn’t built in a visual editor, so the Brooklyn team couldn’t easily make updates themselves. Even straightforward changes could require a developer.

So the rebuild needed to do more than look better. It needed to make the customer experience better and make the site easier for the business to manage.
At the same time, Brooklyn had a loyalty programme, app ordering, customer data and an existing email database, but the CRM wasn’t yet being used as a broader lifecycle marketing tool.

The opportunity wasn’t simply to build a better website or send better emails. It was to start connecting the different parts of the customer experience.

Rebuilding the website

The new website brought together a cleaner visual direction with a more considered UX and content structure, while making the site much easier for the Brooklyn team to manage.

The rebuild covered UX strategy, information architecture, wireframes, visual design, WordPress design and build, and project management.
Rather than simply replacing the existing pages, the website was considered around what customers needed to find and what the business needed to manage day to day.

That meant giving some of the parts of the business that were previously difficult to manage a proper place on the site. Loyalty and coffee became more prominent parts of the customer experience, while menu, catering and locations were rebuilt around making it easier for customers to find what they need.

Behind the scenes, the site was also connected more closely to the systems Brooklyn already uses. The menu can be updated without rebuilding the page, catering pulls through from Shift8, the store locator connects with Google, the Instagram feed updates automatically and the franchise form connects with the existing franchise platform.

The result is a website that isn’t just a better front-end experience. It takes some of the ongoing manual work out of managing the business online, too.

The aim was simple: make the site work harder without making it harder for the client to manage.

Refining the brand

The website was part of a broader shift in how Brooklyn Donuts was presenting the brand.
This wasn’t a rebrand. The core typography and colour palette stayed, but the visual direction was refined to feel more considered and premium.
That meant moving away from elements that no longer felt right for the business, including “Born in Brooklyn”, which felt too American for an Australian brand, and taking a closer look at photography, layout and overall visual presentation.
That same thinking is now being applied to the packaging, with the range being redesigned to give the brand a more polished and cohesive presence across the products customers see in store.

From campaign emails to customer lifecycle

The CRM work initially started in Mailchimp, but it became clear that Brooklyn needed more flexibility than a campaign-led approach could provide.
For a food business, regular email sends simply to fill a calendar weren’t the answer. The opportunity was to use customer behaviour, loyalty and timing to make communication more relevant.

So the CRM strategy moved towards automation-first, Push/SMS-led and campaign-light, with the focus on repeat purchase, loyalty retention and customer value.
Campaigns still have a role, but they need to have a reason to exist. A new product, a useful offer, a competition or something customers will actually want to act on.
The automated customer journey can then do more of the ongoing work.

Moving to Klaviyo

In August, Brooklyn moved from Mailchimp to Klaviyo, opening up email, SMS and push within the same CRM environment.
A significant part of the work was making sure the Shift8 data and customer behaviour could support the strategy, rather than simply moving the existing database to a new platform.

The CRM was mapped around the customer lifecycle, from joining and activating through to repeat purchase, loyalty and reactivation.
Each channel also has a different role.

Push is suited to immediate, contextual communication.
SMS is reserved for moments where there’s a clear reason to act.
Email provides more space for launches, education, discovery and storytelling.

The result is a system designed around what is happening with the customer, rather than simply what needs to be sent that week.

Putting the strategy to work

The first lifecycle flows went live in the final week of September. (2026)
One of the first was Reward Earned, which responds when a customer earns a loyalty reward rather than relying on the next scheduled campaign.

In roughly one week, the flow generated measurable store visits and revenue, with an 8.1% store-visit rate from flow messages.

The communication isn’t happening because it’s Tuesday and Brooklyn needs to send an email. It’s happening because something happened in the customer’s relationship with the brand.

Giving customers a reason to engage

Growing the database wasn’t about asking people to sign up for another marketing channel. There needed to be a reason to want to be part of it.
International Coffee Day provided a simple example. Customers could sign up to the Brooklyn SMS club for the chance to receive a free coffee, turning a promotional moment into an opportunity to grow the database.

The campaign drove a significant increase in SMS sign-ups over the campaign period and generated a 10.15% click rate, showing what can happen when the offer, message and action are all clear.

It became a useful part of the broader growth strategy: give customers a reason to engage, then build on that relationship beyond the initial interaction.

Connecting the customer experience

The Brooklyn Donuts website, loyalty programme, Shift8 and Klaviyo aren’t being treated as separate projects.

The website makes it easier for customers to find, explore and interact with the brand. The CRM can then use customer behaviour to make communication more relevant, while the brand continues to develop consistently across digital and physical touchpoints.

Together, these pieces create a more connected omnichannel customer experience, with each part supporting the next.
The website and CRM are different pieces of the project, but they are working towards the same thing: a better customer experience that also works for the business behind it.

What changed

The new website launched in August 2026.

Between 1 August and 4 October, it recorded 38,392 sessions, up 445% against the previous period, with organic search accounting for 24,916 sessions, up 487%. The rebuilt Menu page received 9,910 views, while the new Text Club page received 5,400. Locations received 3,400 views and Web Ordering 3,100.
The CRM is showing early signs of the same shift.

September was the first month with email, SMS and push available in Klaviyo alongside live lifecycle flows. Email click rate increased from 0.45% to 2.52%, while the SMS database grew by 141%.

The first live flows also began generating measurable store visits and revenue within their first week, giving the new lifecycle strategy an early commercial signal.
The work is still developing, so these are early results rather than a finished picture.

Push, for example, is technically working but only 23 devices currently have it enabled. Growing that audience is one of the next pieces of work.

The bigger picture

Brooklyn Donuts didn’t need another website sitting on its own, or another email marketing calendar sitting beside it.

The opportunity was to make the different parts of the customer experience work together.

The website is easier to use and easier for the team to manage. The CRM is moving from regular broadcast communication towards lifecycle marketing. Loyalty and customer data are becoming more useful, and the brand is continuing to develop across the digital and physical experience.

It’s an ongoing project, but the direction is clear: Build the foundations, connect the pieces and make each customer interaction work a little harder.

The Setup

Terana Skin is an Australian skincare brand doing the hard part right — clinically backed botanical formulas, quality ingredients, real results. But the packaging hadn’t caught up to the product yet. So they came to me for a complete skincare packaging design refresh: a new creative direction to make the range look as premium as what’s inside the bottle.

Skincare packaging design built on proof

As someone who’s built a skincare brand of my own, I know how much packaging has to carry in this category.
Shoppers judge the formula by the bottle, fair or not.

So I stripped everything back. A deep botanical green now runs across the whole range, paired with a clean lowercase wordmark set vertically up cartons, tubes and jars. It’s a small move, but it makes the line instantly recognisable from any angle, on a shelf or in a feed.

Product type is printed directly onto the glass instead of sitting on a label. As a result, the frosted bottles feel like something you’d find in a dermal clinic.

The quality story got pushed to the front of pack, too. Hero ingredients and their percentages: Niacinamide 5%, IBR Snowflake 1% sit right on the bottle. Because if the formulas are the proof, hiding the proof makes you just another green box.

Finally, the skincare packaging design flexes across every format in the range: cleanser tube, serum bottle, moisturiser jar, face oil and cartons, all speaking the same visual language.

The result

Terana now has packaging that looks like one brand: considered, cohesive and premium. It holds its own next to established skincare names. And the quality of the formulas is the first thing you see, not something you take on faith.

Brand Identity & Logo Design for KLEOS — Luxury Men’s Leather Goods

KLEOS is a new Australian luxury leather goods house built around the idea that the objects a man builds around himself over a lifetime deserve a home worthy of them. The name is Ancient Greek for the kind of glory you earn, not announce.

The brand identity & logo design needed to match that brief: quiet, architectural, heritage-weight. Gold on dark. Nothing loud, nothing try-hard.

Brand Identity & Logo Design

I built the identity around a circular seal emblem — a capital K framed by a Byzantine arch, with a Roman numeral XII sitting at the top as a subtle nod to time and legacy. The trick with a mark like this is restraint. Get the weight of the outer circle wrong and it reads as a coin. Keep the arch too dominant and it fights the K. Every decision was about stripping back until only what needed to be there was there.

The KLEOS wordmark and tagline — Earned in Darkness. Kept in Light. — sit below in the same antique gold, unified so the whole thing reads as one mark, not three elements stacked on top of each other.

Delivered across three colour environments, two lockups, and production-ready stamping files built to hold at 20mm on leather and 40mm on brass. Because a mark that only looks good at hero scale isn’t really done yet.

The Outcome

The client said it was exactly what he had in his head. The identity is now live across packaging, digital, and physical production — and it holds up at every scale.

Brooklyn Donuts is one of Australia’s most recognisable donut and coffee franchises, bold, fun, and unapologetically indulgent. When I came on board as their head creative, the brand had drifted. Not dramatically, but enough. The visual language had started to wander from what made Brooklyn Brooklyn, and the consistency across channels, social, email, in-store screens, print, shopping centre digital displays, wasn’t where it needed to be.

The Work

My job was to pull it back. Not reinvent it, restore it, then build on it properly.

Working across a rolling calendar of campaigns and product launches, I developed the creative direction and graphic design for everything from new range rollouts to seasonal limited editions. The Baked Donut range launch, the Dot Cake drop, Donut Day, Winter Wonderland, Made for Mum, each one needed to feel like an event without losing the thread of the overall brand.

Every campaign touched multiple formats: social stills, stories, EDM creative, in-store digital screens, shopping centre displays, and print. That kind of multi-format rollout means the design decisions matter more, not less. An asset that looks great on a phone screen has to hold up at two metres on a centre screen. So every visual had to work hard across all of them.

The creative direction brought back the brand’s core energy — the punchy typography, the strong use of brand orange, the product-forward photography. All while giving each campaign its own moment. Consistent, but not repetitive. (There’s a difference, and it matters.)

The Result

The brand now looks and sounds like itself again, across every format and every touchpoint. Campaigns land with more confidence. There’s a visual consistency that makes the whole thing feel considered, because it is.

Ciencia is a Melbourne-based skincare brand known for science-backed formulas and real results. As they prepared to expand into the Asian market, they needed a full packaging refresh that looked elevated and consistent across every product.

Their range had grown fast, which led to inconsistencies in logos, typography, and label sizes. I stepped in to streamline everything and rebuild the look from the ground up. The goal was simple: create packaging that feels premium, modern, and completely aligned with Ciencia’s reputation for results-driven skincare.

The new look uses a white, minimal base to reflect purity and performance. Red foil detailing adds a touch of luxury while keeping the clinical, trustworthy feel intact.
To make sure the refresh stayed consistent, I created a full packaging style guide.
This project wasn’t just a facelift, it gave Ciencia a visual foundation strong enough to grow with them. Every product now feels part of the same story: clean, confident, and built on science.

NDIS Website Design & Brand Identity

A Okay Care is an NDIS provider focused on mental health, but unlike most in the space, they wanted to connect with a younger audience in a way that felt warm, modern and community-driven.

They came to me with no logo, no brand and no website. Just a clear idea of who they wanted to reach: younger people and their support networks.
So I built everything from the ground up: brand identity, creative direction, and NDIS website design on WordPress.

The Brief

Most mental health branding plays it safe. Muted colours, stock photography, language that feels like it was written by a compliance department.
A Okay Care wanted the opposite, a brand that felt warm, modern, on-trend and community-driven.

But there was a balance to strike. This is still a support service people rely on, so playful couldn’t tip into unserious. The brand needed to feel human and hopeful without losing trust. And because nothing existed yet, every piece had to be built from scratch — starting with the identity, then carrying it through to a website that actually works for participants.

What I Did

Brand Identity & Creative Direction
I designed a brand that’s playful with a hint of nostalgia, think 70s cartoons meets feel-good support service. (Not a combination you see on many NDIS sites, which is exactly the point.)

Bold shapes and friendly colour blocking that feel instantly warm, not clinical

A playful design language that leans into accessibility and self-expression

A logo suite with the flexibility to work everywhere: from social tiles to signage.

Creative direction that keeps every application feeling human, hopeful and full of personality

Every choice was made for connection. Younger audiences switch off the moment something feels institutional, so the brand meets them where they are instead.

NDIS Website Design on WordPress

With the identity locked in, I designed and built the A Okay Care website on WordPress, bringing the brand to life across every page.

A layout structured around how participants and families actually browse , services easy to find, no digging required

Custom referral forms, so participants, families and support coordinators can refer online in minutes instead of playing phone tag

Warm, plain-language copy structure that makes reaching out feel easy, not intimidating

The full brand system carried through: colour, shape and personality on every page, not just the homepage

The Outcome

A Okay Care now has a brand and website that shift mental health support away from clinical norms and towards something genuinely approachable. It feels safe, familiar and empowering, especially for the younger audience it was built for.

Deanna’s words say it best:
“She truly brought our vision to life and perfectly captured the look, feel, and branding we wanted…
The website reflects who we are as a business, and we couldn’t be happier with the final result.”

Working on something similar?
Whether it’s a brand from scratch, a website that works harder, or both, here’s everything I do.

These custom gift boxes were designed to make the unboxing feel just as good as what’s inside. Soft colours, feel-good quotes, and thoughtful little details — all working together to bring Sprinkler’s refillable, feel-good energy to life.

The goal? Something people wouldn’t want to toss. A little moment of joy they’d keep, reuse, or pin to their mood board — turning simple packaging into a brand experience that actually sticks.

A small touch that added big heart to a brand moment.

For this project, I designed custom affirmation cards to pair with Sprinkler’s drink bottles as part of a curated goodie bag for a women’s weekend retreat in Byron Bay.

I also organised the partnership itself — a thoughtful brand moment aimed at increasing awareness and building connection with a community of women already aligned with Sprinkler’s values of mindfulness, self-care and intentional living.

The idea was simple: surprise and delight. Each card featured an uplifting message on the front, and a QR code on the back with a special gift from Sprinkler. It was a soft-sell approach that felt personal, not pushy — and created an instant moment of brand affinity.

Keep the label recognisable, but give it a more modern feel with a clean, elevated finish.
I updated the packaging to reflect their premium position, introducing transparent colours with silver foil details to give the labels a fresh new presence both in-store and online.

Client: Butt Naked Body
Scope: Packaging, Branding and Art Direction

The Brief

With the launch of a new six-product range, Butt Naked Body wanted to introduce Australian native ingredients for the first time. The goal was to reflect an ‘Aussie feel’—modern, fresh, and sophisticated—steering clear of stereotypical or overly clichéd representations.

The Concept

Inspired by the diverse Australian landscape, we chose a colour palette grounded in earthy greens, rich outback reds, and soft golden yellows. These tones capture the essence of Australia’s natural beauty in a way that feels both timeless and contemporary.

To elevate the connection to native ingredients, we worked with a local illustrator to design bespoke line illustrations for each product. Every design highlights the specific native ingredient used—such as Kakadu plum—paired with subtle nods to Australian flora, fauna, and culture.

The Execution

Each product’s packaging was designed to stand out while remaining cohesive as a collection. The delicate illustrations paired with the warm, earthy tones created a look that feels premium and grounded. Careful attention to typography and layout ensured the design remained clean, approachable, and reflective of the Butt Naked Body ethos.
